Lake Geneva couple involved in making Fargo to open the movie Wednesday night
Oscar winners Dieter and Yvonne Sturm will appear at the free screening of Fargo at Geneva Theater 7:30 Wednesday night, Jan. 29, as the inaugural Winterfest Film Fest kicks off 5-day run of classic movies themed around winter.
The Lake Geneva couple, owners of Sturm’s Special Effects International, worked on the 1996 Coen Brothers film creating half of the snow and winter scenes for the dark comedy masterpiece that won multiple Academy Awards. The couple has won an Oscar themselves for creating the first biodegradable snow for the motion picture industry.
Plus, Yvonne is responsible for the full impact of one of the most famous scenes to come out of Hollywood: Fargo’s “The Wood Chipper Scene.” She designed and created what spewed out of the wood chipper that, at the time, shocked audiences.
Beginning at 7:15 p.m. the Sturms will talk about why Fargo was one of their favorite films to work on and then entertain questions. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. Seats are free on a first-come-first-serve basis. Geneva Theater is at 244 Broad St., downtown Lake Geneva.
