The 1925 silent film classic will be accompanied by live organ music. Silent Film Society of Chicago’s very own Jay Warren returns on “Devils Night” to play on of his favorite scores, the bone-chilling Phantom of the Opera. Warren was met with rave reviews last year at Geneva Theater when he accompanied Lake Geneva Film Club’s showing of Nosferatu.
The Phantom of the Opera is an American silent film classic starring Lon Chaney in the title role of the deformed phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The film remains most famous for Chaney’s ghastly, self-devised make-up, which was kept a studio secret until the film’s premiere. Phantom of the Opera still stands as one of the best horror movies ever made.
